Press Release: Conti Gaining Momentum Towards November Win

Conti Gaining Momentum Towards November Win

Annapolis (10/20/10): Joanna Conti, the Democratic nominee for Anne Arundel County Executive, is rapidly closing the gap on Republican incumbent John Leopold.
Joanna Conti delivered an impressive performance last night over opponents John Leopold and Mike Shay in a televised debate conducted by the Anne Arundel Community College.  Conti’s knowledge of the issues facing Anne Arundel County and her integrity were demonstrated on Tuesday night.  “Joanna is the only candidate who has outlined exactly what she intends to accomplish as county executive,” said Conti Campaign Manager Hylton Early, “and voters are responding.”
During the debate, John Leopold again failed to deny the claims of sexual harassment and workplace retaliation that he faces in federal court.  “I had hoped he would take the opportunity to address these charges last night, because the residents of Anne Arundel County deserve to know the truth,” said Conti.
Anne Arundel Community College released polling conducted last week that confirmed that voters are very concerned with ethical issues regarding John Leopold.  Despite the fact that Leopold has been an elected official for almost three decades, 32% of likely voters said they were undecided about who to vote for in the county executive race.  Ethics and  integrity were the most important considerations mentioned.   Among the respondents who voiced a preference, 21% said they would vote for Conti, 34% for Leopold, and 2% for Green party candidate Mike Shay.
“These results are a dramatic improvement from where we were this July, when almost twice as many voters (60%) said they would support Leopold for county executive," said Conti.  “While I still have a distance to go, I remain confident that as voters learn more about my Commitment to Anne Arundel County, I will be elected Anne Arundel’s next county executive.”
The Conti campaign went up on air today with a television commercial that shares her vision with county residents.  See the ad at
